No less a departure from his usual preoccupation than his previous biopic Ed Wood was 20 years ago, Tim Burton's new drama is an affectionate portrait of Margaret Keane (Amy Adams), a unique artist with an oddly engaging worldview whose name was not known for years because of her Machiavellian, bullying husband (Christoph Waltz). Prioritising the human drama over eccentricity, Burton has produced one of his warmest and loveliest films to date.
