Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's shaggy dog novel is a wildly unconventional comedy that stands in stark contrast to There Will Be Blood and The Master. Set during the late 60s, Joaquin Phoenix plays Larry 'Doc' Sportello, a mostly ineffective P.I. investigating a recent disappearance. In reality, his case is the least of his problems as Doc finds himself in a world of trouble and not enough weed to get him through the day.
